Thanks Wendy for pointed out this mistake, actually my mom also not really sure what is the actual name of this veggie, she just agak agak (thought) is cucumber's leaves.. sorry..
-This Chayote shoot is not easy to be found in the supermarket, usually my mom helped me to buy from pasar pagi (morning market). Just simple stir fry with oil, chopped garlic and ikan bilis (anchovies), seasoning with salt, so no recipe I can provided here.
-Believe me, this tasted is good, crunchy and sweet !! Simply yummy!
Happy Cooking !!
This is new to me. Must look for it when I go to the market in the morning.

ReplyDeletesimply delicious! haha... i like ikan bilis on vege tough... add another dimension to the vege! I sokong hokkien dish! yum!
ReplyDeleteSonia,这个菜我们这里叫它‘脆心苗’,不过上次我去金马伦时候吃,那里的人叫它‘龙须菜’……
ReplyDeleteThis is good, crunchy & fresh.
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry to say that it is not cucumber leaves
ReplyDeleteIn Malay it is called pucuk labu. It is actually the shoots of chayote 佛手瓜. The tendrils are used by the shoots the climb around, so it is not a combination.
In Chinese this vege is called 龙须菜.

When you are in Cameron Highlands, you can easily spot these growing beside the farms, along the cliffs besides the leafy vege.
This is also nice when cooked in a spicy coconut milk broth, just like fern shoots(pucuk paku).
I have never tried this but it looks so green healthy and delicious.
ReplyDeleteBright and a beautiful stir fry. Looks splendid!
ReplyDeleteSonia,
ReplyDeleteI agree with wendyywy, it is the shoots of chayote. We often cook it with sambal prawns. :)
I have never tried this but it looks so green healthy and delicious.
ReplyDeleteI've seen this type of leaves back in California farmers market but not here. I never knew it is cucumber leaves. If you have a chance to try sweet pea leaves do try it out. They are really good in stir-fry.
ReplyDeleteThe color of your dish is very striking. It looks delicious and is so easily prepared. I hope you are having a wonderful day. Blessings...Mary
ReplyDeleteNever seen the cucumber leaves here...I am not sure I had them before. Great clicks!
ReplyDeleteThink this is called 'Loong sou choy'. You can get them in Cameron Highlands. It's tasty if you fry them in sambal belachan too.
ReplyDeleteLooks good, I don't think I can get cucumber leaves here, first time seeing it.
ReplyDeleteInteresting veg never eaten or cooked with it before.
ReplyDeleteI ate this before at Cameron Highland 's restaurant. They just simply fry with garlic it also taste very delicious.
ReplyDeleteI have no idea this is called cucumber leaves but I do like them a lot!
ReplyDeleteWonderful color! Looks so healthy and fresh!

ReplyDeleteI've never cook this before! I think the Malay loves it very much. I definitely will try this when I found some later! Thanks for sharing. Have a nice day!
ReplyDeleteCheers, Kristy

Never tried this green before, though we also use cucumber leaves to make dishes :-)
ReplyDeleteIs this the same as Chayote squash?
ReplyDeleteDear all,Thanks for stopping by, and sorry for the confusion made of the name.
ReplyDeleteBo, ya, should be the same.
I've never eaten this vegetable before. Learned something new today!
ReplyDelete在我这里的菜市很常有卖这个叫"金瓜苗"的菜. 而我的煮法是先爆香虾米和蒜泥, 再加入 Belacan 来炒.
ReplyDeleteThis Chayote leaves looks tasty. I would love to try cooking it too. May I ask which pasar pagi does your mom go to? is it in PJ?
ReplyDeleteMy mother-in law grows them in her garden. They are very tasty. I like to saute them w/garlic and fish sauce
