Nut-Hugging Bear Cookies 小熊抱杏仁饼干_2016 CNY cookies 年饼_金猴报春
When i first see this cookie, immediately bookmark to make them because they are so adorable. It was shared by a Japanese chef Maa . Before i can make them, i have to get the cutter first.Later i realized that not just any bear cookie cutter is suitable to make them, some are too short and some are tall.

Hong Kong Style of Savoury Steamed Yam Cake 港式腊肠芋头糕_2016 CNY dish_金猴报春
Whenever i have some good yam, sure use it to make a good steamed savoury yam cake. This time i made slight changes from the usual yam cake since CNY is approaching ( 讨个好意头嘛), added Chinese sausages or Lap Cheong and mushroom, similar like Hong Kong style of Lo Pa Gao aka radish cake.

Egg White Plain Loaf Bread 蛋白土司
The other day one reader left a comment in a very old post (way back 2009), said everyone should try this very soft bread. This is a bread recipe that i have totally forgotten. After i re-check back the recipe, and realized that this recipe is using egg white. Since that day i have leftover egg white, so i go ahead to modify this old recipe into plain loaf bread.

Waxed Meat Claypot Rice (Lap Mei Fun) 腊味饭_2016 CNY dish_金猴报春
The best time to enjoy Lap Mei Fun is during CNY time, as we can easily get good quality of imported waxed meats especially from Hong Kong. I got some good one during my recent short visit to Ipoh.

Hei Zho or Prawn Rolls 虾枣_2016 CNY dish_金猴报春
I have so long did not have this Hei Zho 虾枣 which is one of the Hokkien common dish serve during CNY. I remember my mother did cook this dish when i was young, sometime she also made crab version called as Ching Zho 蟹枣. But don't know since when she has stopped making this dish during CNY but instead she made the Hokkien meat balls which is nice too.
