Basic Sambal for Nasi Lemak 叁峇(辣椒酱)100g dried chili200g onions , coarsely chopped20g garlic3 buah Keras or candlenuts1 and 1/2cup water1 and 1/2cup cooking oil1 onion, coarsely chopped2pcs Asam keping / tamarind peel25g Belacan / shrimps paste50g sugar or to taste2 and 1/2tsp salt or to tasteMethod1. Cut dried chilies then boil in hot water for 10mins till soften . Drained.2. Blend chilies, onions , garlic , buah Keras with water till fine paste .3. In a clean wok over low heat, pour blended chili paste, heat up and stir till slightly dry up .4. Add in cooking oil, stir and mix well. Add in tamarind peel, keep stirring (tumis) the chili paste.5. About half an hour later, add in chopped onions, belacan, sugar and salt. Continue stirring all the time.6. Tumis ( stirring ) till sambal paste turned darker red, light and oil split(take about 45mins-1hr). Serve with Nasi Lemak .
** You can turns this basic Sambal into Ikan bilis sambal, sotong, and etc. Just cook these ingredients and add with this basic Sambal .recipe by Sonia a.k.a Nasi Lemak Lover

Basic Sambal for Nasi Lemak 叁峇(辣椒酱)
This is a new sambal recipe for nasi lemak that i learnt from a worker that work at a nasi lemak stall ^_^ Simple and good ! Less ingredients used if compare to my earlier sweet sambal recipe.

Hi Sonia, such an easy recipe, would you have something similar for a dry beef rending..most recipes have a long list of ingredients, so it would be great to have a simple recipe. Thanks. Shirley
