Here you go ! my own way of pineapple rolls ,my Malay friend so kind shared her secret recipe to me, and I have been using this recipe for many years. There is an interesting ingredient added, I have not seen anyone add this ingredient, check it out below. This pineapple roll is buttery and melt-in-mouth.
-I just use a very cheap Nastar mould, but I feel this mould is so easy to handle, just use thumb to push out the pastry.
** The interesting ingredient is Condensed Milk ( sweet milk/ susu pekat manis), trust me, you will not have a sweet pastry, but instead the pastry is buttery and soft.
Pineapple rolls (Nastar) –makes around 170pcs
Ready-made pineapple jam 680g
Condensed milk (susu manis pekat) 100g -I use F&N Sweetened Creamer(Krimer Pekat Manis)
Butter 375g
All purpose flour 570g
Egg yolks 2
Egg yolk for egg glaze -2
1. Cream butter and condensed milk till light.
2. Add in egg yolk one at a time, and beat until fluffy.
3. Mix in flour, mix till become a firm and non-stick dough.
4. Put mixture into a Nastar mould and press out into strips about 5-6cm long.
5. Place pineapple jam filling on the edge of a strip and make a small elongated roll.
6. Cut off excess dough, brush with egg glaze.
7. Bake in preheated oven at 180c for 13-15mins or till golden brown.
8. Cool on wire racks before storing.
Happy Baking !!

Wow, I like that you only used 4 ingredients for the pastry! This is new for sure and very tempting! I have the same nastar mould too but my pastry dough was too soft to make it out unbroken. Hence, I bought another one with a pusher, haven't tried this new mould yet. Thanks for sharing your secret recipe.
wow..this looks too good..Adding to my to-do list :-) Thanks Sonia !
Oo! Thanks for sharing the recipe!! Would love to try it out someday!
Sonia, sorry got a few questions
May I know the brand of condensed milk u used? Cos as far as I know, there is no condensed MILK in Malaysia anymore. It's all sweetened CREAMER, even the Vitamized by F&N is printed in small "Sweetened creamer" by the side. Even Malaysian Milkmaid is creamer based.
I've tried baking condensed milk cake using Malaysian Sweetened creamer and real sweetened condensed full cream milk from Singapore, the results are different. The real milk thing makes it spongy and soft, but the sweetened creamer version makes it soft and fine crumbed. So, I dunno which to use cos I still have few cans of the real thing from Singapore in my cabinet. Malaysian Sweetened Creamer or Singapore sweetened condensed milk.
Better recommend me the brand u used :)
Everyone is baking pineapple tarts and cookies and I am getting anxious as I have not bake anything for CNY. I will start doing all this only when I reach KL.
Thanks for sharing, didn't know that Condensed milk can be used also, hehe...
Dear all, Thanks for stopping by and your lovely words. It seem this recipe is no more secret already, hehehe, Happy Trying ! Do let me know if you have tried this, ok.
Wendy, I use F&N Sweetened Creamer (Krimer Pekat Manis), I never use other brands, only this brand.
These pineapple rolls look lovely. Everyone seems to be making them this year. I haven't started any CNY baking yet.
The rolls look great...one of my favorite!
meravigliosi!
oh...condensed milk tat the secret to make soft & buttery pineapple tart..thx for sharing
Thanks Sonia.
I think u better change the ingredient name to Sweetened Creamer. In Malaysia sure no problem cos all sold here is creamer, but overseas... real condensed milk might give a different result. Maybe I can experiment with something using coffeemate.. I'll see how. Keep u posted.
This is very interesting recipe. You make me want to bake some cookies for the first time just for CNY. Thanks for the sharing the tips and inspiration.
Nice! I love this pineapple rolls! Wifey made a bunch last weekend too. I should ask her to try your recipe too, never heard of adding condense milk in there but sounds interesting and tasty!
Hi there,
What is sweetened creamer, is it sweetened condensed milk, the thick and sweet condensed milk ? I want to try out the recipe hope to hear from you soon. thanks a billion. kong hei fat tai choy"
yasmin yeong
Yasmin, ya, the thick and sweet condensed milk, that we use to add into Kopi, became Kopi susu.Hope this help. Gong Xi Fa Cai to you too.
Thanks for the supporting the F&N brands of condensed milk. It sure add some % of sales contribution to my brand portfolio. :)
What will be the measurement for the recipe if I am using the measurement in "cups" and not grams?
Hi, I'm following your recipe because it looks so delish! But I'm refrigerating my pastry/dough before I knead it into form. Is it okay if I leave the dough in the fridge overnight? Will my dough spoil or will chilling the dough make the pastry not taste good?
I await your reply. Thanks for posting such an amazing recipe!
Thanks a lot! :)
very appreciate your post, Sonia. i made this cookies this cny, my family loved it so much! even my mum's friend ask how to make it^^
