This buns was special requested by my husband who love coconut buns..
We prefer white coconut filling (use white sugar) more than brown coconut filling (use brown sugar or palm sugar)
Coconut buns
(recipe source: buns with Tangzhong method adapted from Honey Bee Sweet, coconut filling from My Kitchen Snippets, with minor changes)
*makes 20 buns
Coconut Filling
430g fresh grated coconut

130g coarse white sugar
75ml water
2 tsp of cornstarch + 2 tsp water
1. Cook the palm sugar, white sugar and water until sugar dissolved.
2. Add in the grated coconut, stir and cook until almost dry, then add in the cornstarch mixture and stir until the mixture thickens. Set it aside to cool.
Coconut bun
Tangzhong dough
45g bread flour
225ml water
Whisk the bread flour and the water together in a heat proof saucepan. Heat the mixture at low heat till it thickens and ribbons stage.
Main Dough
1 Tangzhong dough
400g bread flour
100g all purpose flour
1 large egg
80g caster sugar
2tsp instant active yeast + 2tbsp lukewarm water
60ml fresh milk
60g unsalted butter, room temperature

3. Grease the baking tin / pan and preheat the oven to 180C.
4. Flatten the dough and fill it with coconut filling (30g). Place all finished buns on a greased baking sheet, and let rise for 30mins.
5. Brush the top with egg wash and sprinkle some grated coconut on it. Then bake in the oven for 25-30mins or until golden brown.
6. Once baked, remove from oven and remove from the pan and let cool completely before serving.
At the same time, I would like to thanks to Smoky Wok (formerly Tastes of Home)who highlighted to me a "no manners person" steal my photo and recipe (an example of my original recipe and photo). This is not the first website that copied my posts, but those at least link back to my blog (they just copy and paste the photo and recipe). But this time, this "no manners person", take my photo, trim to smaller size, write a simple message, made minor changes to my recipe, and turned to become her/his post!!
I cooked, took photos and spent time posting my recipes, but this "no manners person" just take the credit, this is teribble! I feel like want to close my blog...
To my blogger friends, please go and check this site, your photos and recipes might be stolen too. I going to complaint this case to DMCA.

I don't believe there really such a silly body who has the cheek to do such shameless stuff. The food blogging network is big yet we too read about others, there sure bound to be 'Found' if he or she ever ' Steal'.... Sigh ....!
Great buns! Yum yum..!!

These will be perfect for making our US Thanksgiving more excited and a bit more international. They sound so good!
Sorry to hear about the content stealing. It's happened to me before as well.
Thats no good, referring to the person, not the delicious bun! He/she/it took your work because he/she/it thinks its good. Thats the good news, its a pity they don't respect copyright and acknowledge source. He/she/it had lot of fun taking stuff from others, looks like the fun will be short-lived. Lets hope so
Your coconut buns look so delicious, must be very good to be eaten when piping hot.
Yes Sonia, must give these people a good lesson.
这个面包很美味。是我喜欢的面包。下次我也学做这个。谢谢您的分享哦!

Do you mean use all the tangzhong dough (45 g bread flour and 225 ml water) for the buns when you refer to 1 tangzhong dough? Thanks for clarifying.

Special request means its really really good! Good job Sonia!
Shame on the person who stole your blog post!
The buns look perfect. A great recipe.
I'm so glad you pointed it out. That's bad!!! Why will people do that? It's very rude and not respectful of people in the cyberspace.
But on the other hand, I am sure my hubby will request for this too...haha, maybe that means i can get him to get me a stand mixer!!! ;P
Coconut buns is my all time favourite; and I am still buying this at my bakery store near my home. Should I make this myself instead? Thank you for this coconut buns. And really, shame of that person who steal your post photos! Think we should write on that person on his/her comments column.
Anonymous(may i know your name please...), yes, 1 Tangzhong dough is eqaul to 45 g bread flour and 225 ml water.
Wow, it's so tempting!!!

下回一定要试。
那些人呀。。。。。#%¥@
你的处理是对的,
我挺你。
妳的椰丝面包做得很吸引人~
下次把部落格的名字放在照片的中间,看他们还会怎么偷~
I saw this post earlier from my cellphone and I almost died thinking how grate these buns must be. My love of coconut and bread together... If I live near you, I'll be at your door immediately. =) Sorry to hear about your images. I saw it and it's horrible. Jen told me about her experience and it made me mad. I'm working on making a watermark that covers up my photos, but not visible... haha.
hi sonia, taking without permission is stealing and that's grotesque.
perhaps this kind of thing have been happening without us being aware of it..
your coconut buns looks great and well textured
Your buns looks wonderful! I love white coconut filling too!
I clicked on the 'no manners person' and guess what, two of my recipes was taken too! They have no shame! No link was provided as to where the recipes was taken, so they are considered stolen!!!

though i'm not a blogger, but i know how you feel. apparently, you're not alone, i saw a familiar post on her site 'korean japhae' n recognised that it was from 'steamy kitchen'. i bet there're more to come. she needs to be 'executed'!!! am i to harsh?!
The coconut bun looks super delicious:)
The smell of coconut with the bread baking in the oven...must be one of the most wonderful experiences in the kitchen.
oh i would request these too yum so sorry about them stealing your recipe dont stop blogging we all love u
Beautiful bake,delicious coconut buns.
Lovely buns, even if I am not a real coconut bun fan :) These just looks so fresh, and I bet they taste heavenly too:D
AWWW, I am disgusted with the copycat who obviously had no shame in copying others' posts and photos! I despise them! The very least they could do is ask for your permission, that's MANNERS!
You are right, these are people with NO MANNERS, I am truly disgusted!
I think these people should be warned, did you send them a message or something to tell them to stop copying?
I too love the white coconut filling and have been thinking to make these too.
The site's title free delicacies... oredi shows something, I do see a lot of websites that say , "Please copy and paste into your blog" because they steal other's blog post and put it on their site, then let others take as they want. These people won't heed any complains or whatsoever... shame on them. I do have this problem too, they download my whole post into their blog, even my labels are mine, and if you clickon the labels, they come back to my blog. Don't stop blogging for because of these cheapskates.
I also love coconut bun, with gula melaka is the best ^_^
I really love the look of the buns!
ooh, those look so good and tender!!
Can the DMCA do anything to those plagiarizers?
