Purple Sweet Potato Sushi 紫薯寿司

The other day my friend Yan Leng sent me a picture of purple sushi which added purple sweet potato into sushi rice as to make it look purple. It look so pretty with purple, so once i gotten the purple sweet potato, immediately made these Purple sweet potato sushi for lunch.

I have been seeing my IG friends from Singapore kept sharing this yummy fried chicken. And i got to know that they bought it from the supermarket but not homemade. I try to locate this fried chicken at the supermarket here but still seem couldn't find it. So I simply replicate them at home.

Japanese Stir-fried Cabbage with Butter Soy Sauce 日式牛油炒高丽菜

I almost forgot to post this recipe. This month LTU-butter theme remind me of this dish I have cooked few months ago. I never know just a simple stir fry cabbage with butter can resulted a good dish, nevertheless adding Japanese soy sauce into this dish also important.

Japanese Miso and Carrot Salad Dressing 日式味噌胡萝卜沙拉酱


My sister-in-law highly recommended this Miso Carrot salad dressing (on a crab meat salad) to me when we had lunch at a Japanese restaurant. We were tried to figure out what contain inside this dressing as we wanted to make this at home. At the end, we got the ingredients used in this dressing from a worker in this restaurant (but I can't tell you how I dig out the recipe ^_^).

Japanese Taco rice (タコライス, takoraisu)

My son requested me to make Taco, while I searching for a recipe, and I found this special Japanese Taco rice (according to Wikipedia, Taco rice is a popular meal in Okinawa Japan, read more here).
And my son was enjoyed this rice very much, and temporary he has forgotten the real Taco ^_^

Japanese rice burger 日本米饭汉堡


We have never try a rice burger before, until recently we tried a nice rice burger at the Asahiyama Zoo Hokkaido. It was quite a late lunch, we bought some hotdog and ice-cream from a small shop located inside the zoo. My son Desmond didn't want the hotdog, so he ordered a rice burger. After he tasted, he told me the rice burger was very nice. Even we all had finished the hotdog, we still rushed to buy few rice burger to try out, and agreed it was yummy !

Kinpiragobo (Crispy burdock root) 曰式炒牛蒡

My mother and I love this Kinpiragobo (Crispy burdock root 牛蒡) , this side dish was serving at the breakfast buffet counter at the hotel at Sapporo. The burdock tasted crispy, sweet and salty, perfect to go with plain steamed white rice or porridge. Next time I can cook this simple dish for my mother to try out.

Curry bun is a very popular bun in Japan, you can get them in any supermarket or 7 eleven. We bought some to try during the trip, and it was good. I realized that Japanese like to coat bread crumbs in many of their foods ^_^

Just back from Japan trip (Tokyo & Hokkaido), and we had a wonderful trip with good foods and enjoyed the fall foliage at Sounkyo Gorge. Beside Nasi Lemak and Chinese dishes, another cuisine I cooked the most is Japanese dishes because my family members are also Japanese food lover..I cooked this Japanese Salted Salmon Croquette (mashed potato and other ingredients roll in breadcrumbs and fried) few months back, after I learnt how to prepare Japanese salted salmon..And also check below for many Japanese dishes that I have been prepared at home..

Hashimaki / Okonomiyaki on Chopsticks / 箸巻き


Nowadays we can easily see peoples selling Okonomiyaki in pasar malam (night market) , but I hope after this post, they are going to sell this Hashimaki or Okonomiyaki on chopsticks ^_^.
According to here, Hashimaki is a typical festival snack from the Kansai region, it is similar to Okonomiyaki. Therefore, it will also often called Okonomiyaki on chopsticks. Translated mean "hashi" = chopsticks and "maki" role or something rolled.

Chahan (Japanese fried rice) 日式炒飯


The method of Japanese fried rice (Chahan) actually not much difference from Chinese fried rice, the only difference of this fried rice is using Japanese ingredients. I even made the Japanese roast pork Chashu (char siew) to cook with this fried rice. I would like to dedicate this post to Nami aka Just One Cookbook as the Chashu recipe and accessories in these pictures are related to her.

Ajitsuke Tamago (Japanese flavored soft boiled eggs) 溏心蛋

My family love this Ajitsuke Tamago ( Japanese flavored soft boiled eggs ) which served in a Japanese ramen restaurant located at Subang. Usually we like to order additional eggs which cost us RM 2 for one egg. Since it is quite easy to make this at home, i made this when i cooked ramen (i found a good subsitution using local noodles) the other day.

Japanese egg salad sandwich鸡蛋三明治 (Tamago-Sando) ~深夜食堂


Yesterday my son Desmond was requested egg sandwich in the late evening, i rejected his request because dinner was ready and i was rushing to attend a gang dinner (my girl friends gave me thumbs up for the raspberry cheesecake ^_^). When i tried to wake him up this morning, he showed me his sour face. I asked him why you angry at me, he said because i did not make him egg sandwich yesterday, LOL.
So i quickly make this egg sandwich before he came back from school today..and this egg sandwich also one of the food that shared in the "Midnight canteen" drama 深夜食堂.

After i cooked the Japanese Chicken Karaage 炸鸡块 which i was inspired by a Japanese drama 深夜食堂 (Midnight Canteen) , this time I try with the main dish Tonjiru (Japanese Pork Miso Soup) 豬肉味噌湯. In this show, this is a main dish that selling in this midnight canteen, you will see the main actor cooking this dish at the begining of every episode.

Japanese Chicken Karaage 炸鸡块 ~深夜食堂


I have a kid's taste, I am especially love fried chicken ^_^...
The other day i saw a blogger (sorry, i could not recalled which blogger) recommend this Japanese drama 深夜食堂 (like to listen their song too) and the story was taken from 深夜食堂comic books. I was quickly watched it using smartphone, and i especially like to watch when they sharing Japanese simple cooking recipe at the end of every show. I learnt this Chicken Karaage from this drama..
