Pumpkin Custard 金瓜粟米燕菜

In the recent missing MH370 flight, let me realized that we have to 活在當下  (appreciate every moments that we have now !! ). Lets us pray for all the passengers on board this flight and have a safe return..

The other day I got a small good looking pumpkin from wet market, the seller told me this pumpkin is planted here but the species is from Taiwan.

Galloping Horses (Ma Haw) , 骏马旺来~~欢喜过马年

I have never prepare an appetizer for CNY eve dinner before. This year I got this idea to prepare this Thai appetizer "Ma Haw" for CNY eve dinner after first tasted this yummy appetizer at the Erawan Tearoom Bangkok on my short visit to Bangkok last month. And the English name "Galloping Horses" also perfect for this Horse year. I also give a nice and prosperous Chinese name for this appetizer as  骏马旺来. 骏马 refer to a fine horse whereas 旺来 for Hokkien people like me refer to "Ong Lai" or pineapple which also one of the ingredient in this appetizer.

Bangkok Chicken Rice Plate ( Khao Man Gai ) 泰式鸡饭

Nowadays I prefer to cook less oily Thai style chicken rice (only use chicken breast) than the usual Chinese Hainanese chicken rice but we still go to our favourite Hainanese chicken rice stall quite often. I had cooked this Thai style chicken rice earlier, but this time I adapted a new dipping sauce from a new cookbook that I bought during a book sale few months ago And this new dipping sauce was equally good if compare to the earlier recipe.

Kai Loog Keuy / Thai Son-in-law eggs

I had this dish at a Thai restaurant on the other day. I was curious the funny name then I asked the waiter why this dish has such funny name called Son-in-law eggs, but he couldn't tell me an answer.
After I google, according to here, this little deep-fried, savoury egg dish is traditionally cooked by Thai mothers for their soon-to-be son-in-laws as a grave warning that if they decide to get a little promiscuous with their beloved daughters, their precious gems will end up boiled, deep-fried and served with sweet sauce. Thai's mothers are cute and creative right ^_^
This is a great way to get rid of leftover boiled eggs, the sweet and sour pour over fried eggs, kids especially love them.

Lookchoop (Thai Mung Bean Marzipan) 泰国王室小甜点

After last visit to Bangkok, I have been wanting to make this Thai dessert- Look Choop..Finally I spent about 4hrs to make it happened ! According to here, Look Choop was a Thai dessert that originated in the royal palaces of ancient Siam. Each of Look Choop shaped into mini size of fruits or vegetables and painted colourfully, as it was important that foods look attractive and draw the attention from royal members. I had this Thai dessert when I was a kid, can't remember who went to Hat Yai and brought back this for us.

Ikan Masak 3 Rasa (Thai Malay Sweet, Sour & Spicy Fish) 泰式三味鱼

Finally I am able to share with you this Ikan Masak 3 Rasa (Thai Malay Sweet & Sour Fish). I could not take clearer picture when the first time I cooked this fish dish as sky already turned dark. Today I try to cook earlier so I can take a clearer picture. But feel sorry to my family who has to eat this dish cold by the time they take dinner ...
We took a very nice Ikan Masak 3 Rasa ( means fish cooked with 3 difference tastes, sweet, sour and spicy) in a Thai Malay restaurant during our recent trip to Kelantan. All dishes served in this restaurant were very yummy. I will try to imitate those dishes we ordered one by one, first comes with this Ikan Masak 3 Rasa, hope you will like it.
