We just back from a makan trip vacation (food hunting trip) where we went up to nothern part of Malaysia, Penang, Taiping and Ipoh..Our first stop was in Penang,,and we listed a long list of Penang famous street foods to try out. Let me first share with you this famous charcoal Char Koay Teow (Stir fried Chinese flat noodles) at Jalan Siam Penang..
There is no table and chair provided, so we choose to sit in the coffee shop just opposite the Char Koay Teow stall, and be prepared to wait for at least half an hour (we waited for 45mins !!). See this picture you know how tiring to wait for a plate of yummy Char Koay Teow, hehehe..
This stall is running by this old man and helping by his son who is in charge of taking order and deliver the order to customers.
Sorry, i was wrongly focus this picture, hehehe..Anyway, this was the best Char Koay Teow i have ever had, it was stir fried till perfection and full of "wok hei" !! I just love this simple Char Koay Teow with a lot of lard, "si ham" (cockles), egg, bean sprouts and "ku chai" (Chinese chives)...and also appreciate the way how they prepare this noodle by cooking with charcoal..
My son Desmond also gave thumbs up for this plate of yummy Char Koay Teow.
While we are leaving, I still seeing people wait for their Char Koay Teow even rain has started...

Sonia, in Taiping (my hometown) also got one famous charcoal char koay teow and the waiting time is almost the same for this one in penang. I usually waited min an hour. This famous CKT in Taiping also featured in Axian Food Adventure in ASTRO AEC together with this CKT in Penang.
Wow, the whole family enjoyed the fragrant fried koay teow yea…

CHARCOAL Char Koay Teow... Wow and yums. So lucky to have a family with much patience waiting. Hope will get to eat from this stall when I visit Penang. :)
That sound like a delicious and mouth watering trip! Merry christmas!
Looks yummy.. feel so hungry now
Merry Christmas & Happy New Year ^_^
I'm from Penang. I frequent this Char Koay Teow stall quite often because it's near my office. This old man has been in this business for many many years. He also has another brother doing the same business near my home. I guess I'm lucky to be living in Penang known as the hawker food haven. But frankly speaking, I still prefer my own cooking. How much hawker food can one eat every day? Healthy home cooked food is still the best, isn't it?
Happy New Year to you and your family!
Reinnie Choo from Penang
today just realized the comment i posted in your previous blog is not posted successfully...:( the wishes all gone...
Hey Sonia, I was in Penang too until last Saturday! I didn't go to this stall but there is a shop in Jalan Selamat that serves very delicious char koay teow too!
It sure looks divine! But how come no shrimps?
Melanie, we dropped by Taiping too, if i know Taiping also have good CKT, sure go there and makan..anway there will be next time,,Thanks for the info.
Reinnie Choo, Oh, you are lucky to stay in food heaven Penang..ya, agreed with you, like you said home cooked foods still the best! Happy New Year to you too.

Hi Sonia, this must be the longest time that I haven't been visiting your blog since Sep! Wow, looks like you were busy looking for food huh! This dish of noodle certainly makes me salivating! Penang's chow keoy teow is the best, yeah!
